Denim is amongst the most iconic fabrics present in the world. It is a durable fabric weaved with twill. Denim is yarn-dyed and consists mostly of cotton.  In 1853, the clothes made of denim became popular when Strauss opened an outlet and started selling them. Within his store, he used to keep dry goods along with buttons and canvas. Because of the weaving technique, denim is strong and durable. The balanced level of insulation within denim makes it a versatile fabric. The denim clothes are very easy to maintain and can be cleaned after several uses. They can easily be styled and also can be worn with trendy outfits. Following the harvest of cotton, fibers are then spun into yarns and later dyed. The cotton denim is made either on a shuttle loom or on a projectile loom. The selvedge denim is produced by shuttle loom. The weft is passed from warp in a back & forth motion. This results in smooth edges of selvedge. Whereas, a projectile loom manufactures non-selvedge denim, as it consists of only one thread of weft for each row. This results in more soft and delicate edges which are required to be sewn to prevent it from fraying. The ribbing of fabric in a diagonal pattern makes it different from cotton duck as well as canvas, which are strong materials similar to denim.
